CPO Scholarship Recipients
Congratulations to the following
individuals who were selected by a committee composed of senior and master chief petty
officers to receive the 2001 CPO
Scholarships.

Marissa
Macedo |
 |
Marissa Macedo is the
daughter of STGCM(SW) Joseph l. Spivey, Sr. who is stationed
at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, San Diego, CA.
Marissa graduated from the Academy of Our Lady of Peace, San Diego, CA
as an honor roll student. She was a member of the school swim team
and was very involved in school musical productions. Marissa was honored
with a lifetime membership in the California Scholastic
Federation. She will attend Hawaii Pacific University and will
major in marine biology. Her pastimes include snorkeling and SCUBA
diving. Her lifelong dream and plan is to swim with the sharks.

Lynette
Amaris Esponda |
 |
Lynnette Amaris Esponda
is the daughter of Chief Raymond and Suzzette Esponda stationed in
Fallon, NV. Lynette graduated from Nansemond River HS in Suffolk,
VA. She was named to the Who's Who Among American High School
Student and received Academic Letters and Honor Roll status for three
years. Lynette will attend Longwood College in Farmville, VA where
she will major in Elementary Education. She has a strong interest
in dance and would also like to pursue this in college. Her
community service includes tutoring first grade students, assisting at
her church, and helping beautify her high school. She says "Hi!"
to her sister Jaclyn. |

Apple |
 |
Brianna Renee Apple is the daughter of CTRC Robyn
A. Strayer who is stationed at NTTC Corry Station in Pensacola, FL.
She graduated from Fred T. Foard HS in Newton, NC as an Honor Graduate
and a North Carolina Honor Scholar. Brianna was Vice President
of the French Club, a member of the Key Club and Beta Club, and was
given the Presidential Award for Educational Excellence. She
plans on attending Clemson University in Clemson, SC an will major in
Political Science with the ultimate goal of attending law school.
She is a member of her church's Youth Group, a soloist in the church
choir, and helps the Girl Scouts. |

Reyes
|
 |
Eugene Sims Reyes is the son of EMCS Generoso Reyes
of Virginia Beach, Virginia and represents the winner of the
Active Duty East Coast category. Eugene graduated from Tallwood High
School in Virginia Beach number one of a class of 517. He plans on
attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in
Blacksburg, VA. His major will be in computer sciences with
interests in aeronautics, rocketry, computer programming, and web site
development. His extracurricular activities include member of Future
Business Leaders of America, layout editor of Literary Magazine,
Debate Club and National Honor Society. He helped his community by
working with the Summer Reading Program for 10 years, and as a
volunteer at his church for six years. |

Timothy
J. Aguila |
 |
Timothy J. Aguila is the
son of DTCM Bal and Evelyn Aguila currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
He graduated as an Honor Roll student from Kubasaki HS where he also
excelled in wrestling earning eight championship medals. As the
team captain, he led his team to numerous successful competitions and
was selected as the Most Outstanding Wrestler. He was an assistant
Sunday school teacher and coached Special Olympic athletes.
Timothy will attend the Okinawa Brach, University of Maryland for his
first year of college and then transfer to San Jose State University,
CA. He will major in Video Film Production and Information
Management Systems. |

Therese Voigt |
 |
Nichole Therese Voigt is
the daughter of ITC Kenneth W. Voigt who is stationed at NAVCOMTELSTA
Yokosuka, Japan. Nichole graduated from Kinnick HS in Yokosuka,
Japan and was named to the Honor Roll in addition to being inducted into
the National Honor Society. She will be attending Minnesota State
University at Moorhead, MN and will major in Special Education with an
interest in Elementary Education. She taught English to Japanese
students and plans on becoming a teacher. |

Gonzales |

Anna Mae Ramos Gonzales
is the daughter of retired SKCS Oscar Gonzales of Vallejo California and
is the winner representing the Retired category. Anna Mae graduated from
Jesse Bethel High School in Vallejo as the Honor Society President. She
also received honors and recognition in geometry, algebra, chemistry and
biology. Anna Mae plans on attending the University of California –
Davis at Davis, California and major in biology. She was active in the
Leadership Club, the Varsity Basketball support staff, and the Student
Council. Her community involvement included helping the Kaiser Hospital
gift shop, the Vallejo Recreational District "Kid Klub," and the
California Coastal Clean-Up program. |

Jonathan
Misola |
 |
Jonathan Misola is the
son of retired HMCM Bonifacio Misola of Ewa Beach, HI. Jonathan
graduated Summa Cum Laude from Adm. Radford HS in Honolulu. He was
president of the Radford chapter of the National Honor Society, Captain
and MVP for the school's tennis team, and spent four years in the
NJROTC. He will attend the University of Washington in Seattle, WA
and will major in computer engineering. His community service
included being a Master Councilor in the Order of DeMolay, a greeter at
his church, and assisting the Honolulu Marathon first aid station.

Christina Hamilton |

Christina Hamilton is the daughter of
STSCM(SS) Michael Hamilton who is stationed at the Naval Submarine
School in New London, CT. She graduated from Griswold HS in Jewett
City, CT. She graduated with high honors and was an Honor Roll
student her four years at Griswold. Christina won awards in
science and history fairs. Additionally she is a member of the
Connecticut Association for Student Councils and the Peer Leadership
Program. Christina helped her community by participating in the
Conservation Action Network, the Sierra Student Coalition, and aiding
the residents of the Summit Nursing Home. |

Jennifer Lee Gaskey |
| |
Jennifer Lee Gaskey is the daughter
of PNC Debra L. Gaskey, who is stationed at NR NAVTRANS DET 18 in Tampa,
FL. She graduated from Lakewood HS in the Center for Advanced
Technologies. She was on the Honor Roll for four years and
received the awards in physics, geometry, and computer Science.
Her community activities included coaching boys soccer teams and
volunteering in her church's Youth Group. She was named Sunshine
Ambassador for the City of St. Petersburg, FL. |
